Billabong Beach Vibe Embroidery Design: Surf Wave Silhouette Machine Embroidery File
The Billabong Beach Vibe embroidery design is a compact surf-inspired wave silhouette rendered as two stacked horizontal wave forms, each depicting a breaking ocean wave with a curling crest cut out against the dense dark fill of the wave body. Both wave elements are stitched in a single deep charcoal black thread using dense fill stitches, with the wave crest shapes defined entirely by negative space rather than outline. The result is a bold, graphic surf badge motif with strong contrast and clean silhouette. This design stitches out at 1,947 stitches.
What distinguishes this design from other wave or surf motif embroideries in a beach collection is the use of two separate wave elements stacked vertically rather than a single continuous wave form. The upper element is a rectangular fill block with wave cutouts along its lower edge, while the lower element is an independent breaking wave shape with a curling peak and spray detail. Placing two distinct wave interpretations in close vertical proximity, while keeping the negative space between them legible and the overall silhouette readable as a unified composition at under 2 inches in size, is the specific design and digitizing challenge that defines this file.
Design Details
The upper element is a dense filled rectangular band with its lower edge shaped into two wave troughs, creating the impression of an ocean surface viewed from a distance with wave forms cutting into the lower boundary. The lower element is a larger standalone breaking wave: a broad fill mass that rises from a flat base on both left and right sides, building to a tall central crest with a tightly curled hook at its peak and a secondary smaller curl to the left. The interior of the breaking wave curl is left as open white fabric, forming the characteristic hollow of a breaking surf wave. The base of the lower wave tapers into a flat baseline, and the right side extends into a lower horizontal band that balances the overall width of the composition. Both elements share the same dense vertical fill stitch angle and thread color, unifying them visually as a matched pair despite their different shapes. The compact 1.72 x 1.79 inch format makes this design particularly suited for caps, pockets, cuffs, and small badge placements.

Digitizing Quality
The primary digitizing challenge in this design was defining clean negative space edges within a very small fill area. Because the wave crest curls and trough cutouts are formed entirely by the shaped boundary of the fill rather than by outline stitching, the fill path edges must be precisely drawn to produce smooth, recognizable wave curves at under 2 inches. Any roughness or stepping in the fill boundary at this scale reads immediately as an unclean silhouette, so the fill edge paths were digitized with smooth curve nodes and minimal anchor points to reduce angular artifacts.
The tightly curled wave hook at the peak of the lower wave element required careful fill termination. The curl narrows to a small rounded tip that the fill must reach and cover completely without overrunning into the adjacent open negative space. The fill was digitized with a tapered end path that follows the curl contour precisely, ensuring full coverage of the hook tip while keeping the open interior of the curl clean and well-defined.
At under 2,000 stitches total, this is an extremely lean design where every stitch contributes directly to the silhouette quality. The fill density was set to provide full fabric coverage without excessive stitch count, keeping the sew-out fast and the finished embroidery flat and stable on lightweight cap and garment fabrics.
