Fleur-de-Lis Patch Embroidery Design: Scout Badge Circle Machine Embroidery File
The Fleur-de-Lis Patch embroidery design is a classic heraldic fleur-de-lis motif centered within a dashed circle border, with a decorative rope knot element at the base of the circle, all rendered in a single deep charcoal black thread. The fleur-de-lis itself is fully filled with smooth directional satin stitches, featuring a tall pointed central petal, two broad curling side petals, and a small oval collar band at the base of the central form. This design stitches out at 2,438 stitches.
What distinguishes this design from the rose pink Fleur-de-Lis in the same collection is the thread color and the visual weight it produces. The deep charcoal black fill creates a dramatically higher contrast between the filled motif and the dashed circle border compared to the tonal rose pink version, shifting the design's character from soft and feminine to bold and heraldic. At this compact scale, the darker thread requires tighter underlay calibration to prevent the denser-reading charcoal fill from visually closing the small open counter spaces within the motif, which is the specific digitizing consideration that differentiates the two colorway files.
Design Details
The central fleur-de-lis features a tall pointed central petal with a pronounced ridge line rendered by a split in the fill stitch direction at the petal center, creating a subtle V-shaped highlight that suggests a raised central vein. The two side petals curl outward and downward in the characteristic fleur-de-lis form, each broadly filled with smooth satin stitches that follow the petal curvature. A small oval collar band sits at the junction where the three petal forms meet the lower stem, rendered as a narrow horizontal oval outline with an open center. The circle border surrounding the motif is rendered as a segmented dashed ring with evenly spaced rectangular dash blocks forming the full circle circumference. At the bottom of the circle, centered below the fleur-de-lis base, a compact rope knot is stitched with interlocking satin fill segments and two short rope ends extending from the knot sides, suggesting a tied reef knot. The monochromatic deep charcoal palette gives this version a strong, graphic patch quality well suited to uniforms, tactical gear, bags, and heritage apparel applications.

Digitizing Quality
The primary digitizing consideration specific to this charcoal colorway is underlay density management across the filled motif. Dark thread reads as visually heavier than light thread at the same stitch density, which means the side petal curls and the small collar oval require carefully controlled underlay so the dark fill does not visually encroach on the white counter spaces within those elements. Each fill zone was calibrated with the minimum underlay needed for stability, preserving the legibility of the open counter areas at this compact scale.
The rope knot at the base of the composition requires the over-under interlocking of the rope strands to read clearly in a single dark thread color. The knot was digitized with the lower-passing strand stitching first and the upper-passing strand layered over it, so the crossing reads as a dimensional overlap rather than two flat shapes merging. In the dark charcoal colorway, the subtle relief created by this sequencing is more critical than in a lighter color, as there is no hue contrast to help separate the crossing strands.
The dashed circle border was digitized with consistent dash block dimensions and equal angular spacing across the full circumference. The higher contrast between the dark dashes and the white fabric ground in this colorway makes any spacing irregularity more immediately visible than in the pink version, so dash placement precision was a key quality focus for this file.
