Golden Sunflower Bloom Embroidery Design: Sunflower Split Disc Machine Embroidery File
The Golden Sunflower Bloom embroidery design is a front-facing sunflower composition featuring two concentric rings of pointed petals in amber-orange and golden yellow, surrounding a large filled brown center disc outlined by a dark circular satin border, all worked in a warm autumn palette of burnt orange, deep amber, bright golden yellow, and chocolate brown. The design is structured as a monogram-ready split disc format with the center disc providing a clean circular field suitable for adding a name, initial, or date over the finished embroidery. Total stitch count is 11,695 stitches.
What distinguishes this design from other sunflower embroidery files in a floral collection is the two-layer petal construction with alternating color rings rather than a single ring of uniform petals. The outer petal ring uses a bright golden yellow, while the inner petal ring uses a deeper amber-orange, and the two rings are staggered so that each inner petal sits between two outer petals. Digitizing two full rings of pointed tapered petals that interlock without overlapping or creating density buildup at the petal base zone where both rings converge near the center disc is the specific construction challenge unique to this design.
Design Details
The outer petal ring consists of broad pointed petals in bright golden yellow satin fill, each petal tapering from a wider base near the center disc to a sharp pointed tip at the outer perimeter. The petals are evenly spaced around the full circumference of the flower, with each petal fill using a directional satin stitch that runs along the petal length from base to tip. The inner petal ring is built from slightly shorter and narrower petals in a deeper amber-orange satin fill, positioned at staggered intervals between the outer yellow petals so that the two rings interlock in an alternating pattern when viewed from the front.
At the center of the composition, a large circular disc fill in warm chocolate brown covers the central area of the flower. The disc fill uses a diagonal satin stitch direction across the full circle, creating a smooth even surface. Around the outer edge of the disc, a dark charcoal-brown satin outline circle is applied as a clean boundary between the brown center and the surrounding petal bases, giving the disc a defined, dimensional quality. The open disc interior is large enough to accommodate monogram or name text stitched as a separate element over the finished background.

Digitizing Quality
The primary technical challenge in this design is managing the petal base density zone where both the inner amber petal ring and the outer yellow petal ring converge near the center disc boundary. Both petal rings originate from approximately the same radial distance from the disc center, meaning a narrow annular zone around the disc contains the bases of all petals from both rings simultaneously. Without careful sequencing and underlay adjustment, this zone would accumulate excessive stitch density from the combined petal base fills, causing fabric stiffness and potential distortion at the most visible area of the design. The petal base fills are individually trimmed and their underlays reduced in the convergence zone to distribute density evenly.
The sharp pointed tips of the outer golden yellow petals require clean taper termination at the outermost perimeter of the design. Each petal tip is a satin fill that narrows to a fine needle point, and the final stitches at each tip must be individually shortened and angled to converge cleanly without producing a blunt end or a loose frayed tip on fabric. With the number of petals in the outer ring, consistent tip quality across every petal is a detail that must be verified for each individual petal fill rather than assumed from a standardized path.
The large circular center disc fill must remain flat and even across its full diameter without buckling or doming the fabric at the center of the composition. Large circular satin fills are prone to center pull that can cause the fabric to gather slightly beneath the disc if underlay and density are not properly set. The disc fill uses a structured underlay pattern and a density calibrated to provide full coverage without compressing the fabric, keeping the disc surface flat and stable as a clean background for subsequent monogram or text stitching.
